For septic service around Greenfield, call Fortville Septic at (317) 836-2464. Greenfield is the Hancock County seat — roughly 24,000 residents. Inside the city limits, most homes sit on municipal sewer. Outside, almost everything is on private septic. We work that rural ring weekly from our McCordsville shop: north toward US-40, east toward Charlottesville, south into Sugar Creek Township, west across Center Township toward Mt. Comfort.

Septic country outside the city limits

Greenfield's city limits trace Brandywine Creek through town. The municipal sewer footprint covers the downtown grid around the courthouse, the blocks east and west of I-70 Exit 104, and newer subdivisions filled in along US-40. Step outside those limits and the picture changes quickly. Center Township east of town. Brandywine Township to the north and northeast. Country addresses along CR 400N and CR 600E. All private septic.

The systems here skew older than McCordsville's. A fair share of Greenfield-area country tanks went in during the 1970s and early 1980s. Failing baffles, undersized risers, and the occasional steel tank quietly rusted through after 40-odd years. Routine pumping carries most of the calendar. Inspections and the follow-up repairs they reveal are the rest.

Services and permits

Pumping every 3 to 5 years. Plus riser and lid replacement, baffle and pump repairs, drain field assessments, camera scoping, real estate inspections, and full replacements. Full menu on the services page; prices on the pricing page. Greenfield has a particular advantage on permits: the Hancock County Environmental Health office is in town at 111 American Legion Place, (317) 477-1127.

Knowing when to call

Slow drains, gurgling toilets, soggy patches over the field, bright-green grass over the drain field, and the lowest fixture backing up first are the standard signs. The full diagnostic walkthrough is on our Hancock County septic guide. For nearby coverage, see McCordsville and New Palestine.
